Premise

The premise of the game is that most modern shooters are based on who can properly use grenades the best. So the Lead Designer, decided to design a game that the victor would be based on who shot better in a shooter game. But he knew that it wouldn’t be enough to simply give them guns and tell them to go so he came up with a very inventive and intriguing mechanic to make the game even more interesting. The premise of RYB is that it’s a third person shooter based on a simple Rock, Paper, Scissors mechanic.

1 Mechanic, 3 Colors, Numerous Possibilities

The Rock, Paper, Scissors mechanic, is expressed by the three colors of the gun player can use. The first color does double damage to the second color, the second color does double damage to the third color, and the third color does double damage to the first color. The players may swap the color of their gun at any time, all though there is a cool down preventing a spamming effect. This way the mechanic can help players that are new to shooters but more advanced players can still out shoot others without worrying about the color triangle. The guns perform exactly the same so that no one can be good with the “shotgun” but bad with the “machine gun.”

Producer Role

I was the producer on this project so it was my job to keep other people on task and motivated to keep working on the project. This was a bit of a challenge and I attempted a number of ways to do this, including but not limited to giving my team mates a cookie if they delivered a milestone on time. My major focus as the producer, other than keeping people working on time, was making sure that we didn’t leave our scope. Because of my focus on making sure of this. We have 1 polished game mode and two good looking and fun playing levels. If I hadn’t been so adamant about keeping our scope in check it probably would have been a lot less polished over all.

Gameplay

The gameplay works exactly as we wanted it to. The skill of the game is all about who can shoot best. So while playing the players are often found circle strafing, running away, and charging each other, but always shooting. Depending on the skill of the players they are also changing their colors but sometimes you will find a player who is skilled enough at sharp shooting that he doesn’t change colors as often.
